Our History

CRACIA was founded in 2014 by Janet Chernela, anthropology professor, University of Maryland; two anthropology graduate students, Emily Colon and Jessica Breitfeller; undergraduate anthropology student Delia Dreher;  four professional faculty of the University of Maryland Christopher Hewlett, Eduardo Fernandez, Stanford Zent, and Eglee Zent (also of the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientificas);  four former affiliates of the Smithsonian, Anthony Seeger, William Crocker, Theresa Miller, and Javier Carrera Rubio; professor of anthropology, William and Mary, William Fisher; and emeritus anthropology professor, Catherine Allen, from George Washington University.  Early members also included professor George Mentore, University of Virginia and Laura Mentore, Mary Washington University.
